Tesla’s new Model X – is this for real? Sign me up.

Tesla Motors unveiled recently their latest edition – the Model X. A 7 passenger SUV/Minivan which goes from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. Oh yeah, and it’s 100% electric. Are you kidding me?

Plus, they ditched the sliding rear doors of a minivan in favor of upward lifting Falcon Wing doors. Check out this quick review from Katie Fehrenbacher at GigaOm.

I have 4 kids and need the space to fit all of them in the car. But we’ve avoided the minivan thus far in favor of gas guzzling SUVs. The Model X seems to be a perfect blend of both, but with the added benefit of style, performance and lower emissions (the coal burned to create your electricity does create emissions – but fewer than gasoline…). This seems too good to be true. I plan to watch this closely in the coming year.
